Nursing home radiator covers: a refurbishment across three properties

Nursing home radiator covers · Lancashire & Yorkshire

Our nursing home radiator covers are helping an independent care group replace ageing casings across its Lancashire and Yorkshire properties. The work completed so far covers communal areas in three homes, with Eazi-Access chosen for a more robust casing and practical cleaning and maintenance access.

The starting point

Replacing older covers in busy communal spaces

The group’s existing installations included older LST radiator covers and wooden radiator covers. The replacement programme is focused on a harder-wearing casing that suits the everyday demands of communal spaces.

Corridors, dining rooms and lounges are used throughout the day. In these areas, the cover needs to be robust, straightforward to look after and practical for staff who need to reach the radiator behind it.

The selected solution

Eazi-Access nursing home radiator covers

For this programme, Coverad is replacing the old covers with Eazi-Access radiator covers. The range combines a steel casing with controlled access for authorised cleaning, inspection and maintenance.

That access is an important part of the choice. A clean-looking exterior is only one part of looking after a radiator installation: staff also need a workable way to reach the radiator and the space behind the cover.

The photographs show the completed casings in their surroundings, with upper and lower ventilation openings and accessible fixing points. The arrangement is selected around the space available at each location.

A detail with a purpose

30° sloping tops where space allows

Where the available space permits, the programme uses a 30° sloping top. This discourages the cover being used as a shelf, helping reduce the likelihood of items being left above the radiator and obstructing airflow.

It is a practical detail rather than a guarantee that ventilation will always remain clear. Furniture, curtains and everyday items still need to be kept away from the ventilation route. The top profile also needs to work with the window sill, wall fittings and other features around each radiator.

What the replacement is designed to improve

Robust casings, with upkeep in mind

Everyday durability

Steel casings provide a robust replacement for the older covers, with the demands of busy communal spaces in mind.

Cleaning and maintenance

Eazi-Access gives authorised teams a controlled route to the radiator and surrounding area for routine upkeep.

Clear ventilation

Sloping tops discourage storage where space allows. Keeping the openings clear remains part of the day-to-day routine.

Specifying nursing home radiator covers for your next refurbishment

Start by looking at the covers already in place and the way each room is used. Record the radiator, valves, pipework, window sill and any nearby furniture. Then consider who needs maintenance access and how the area is cleaned.

For nursing home radiator covers, surface-temperature requirements and heating performance should be checked alongside the casing and access arrangement. Our LST specification guidance explains the points to review. Photographs and an existing radiator schedule are a useful starting point for discussing replacements.
